We at the New Economic School express our concern in connection with the situation around the European University at St. Petersburg.

Without exaggeration, EUSP is a leader of higher education in Russia. Modern and highly demanded training programs, advanced research, a unique international team of lecturers, active and highly motivated students, solid community of successful graduates - these are the indicators that highlight the originality of your school and its outstanding role in shaping the intellectual and cultural environment of St. Petersburg and Russia as a whole.

European University is a non-governmental institution. Therefore, we closely feel the problems you face. New Economic School is also a small non-governmental institution. The foundation histories of our universities are very similar. It is painful that the European University is being deprived of its license. It is akin to the sufferings of one's true friend and supporter.

We fully support the goal of the state to ensure that higher education reaches a high level suitable for our country and that Russian universities easily compete with leading international universities. Relatively small non-governmental higher education institutions like EUSP and NES play an important role in accomplishing this task. EUSP and NES alumni work at well-known academic and research institutions, build their careers in prestigious international and Russian companies, participate in the implementation of state governance and the development of the nonprofit sector.

We express our full support to the European University at St. Petersburg and we hope you will overcome all difficulties, while all misunderstandings will be resolved. Your university simply has to resume its full activity again for the benefit of the city and the entire country.

We are with you, colleagues.
