European University at St. Petersburg announces
the resignation of Rector Oleg Kharkhordin

The board of founders and the board of trustees of the European University at St. Petersburg today accepted the resignation of Oleg Kharkhordin as Rector of the University effective July 1, 2017. Dr Kharkhordin has served as Rector of EUSP since 2009, leading the university through a period of unprecedented growth but also through a difficult period of legal and administrative challenges from local and federal authorities.

Dr Kharkhordin declared that he believes his resignation will help the university in the next stage of its development as an institution meeting the highest standards of higher education in the world.

The founders and trustees announced that Dr Nikolai Vakhtin, who served as Rector of EUSP from 2003 to 2009, will assume the office for a year while a search is launched for a new Rector. Dr Vakhtin will provide continuity in the University’s educational and development programs.

The boards of founders and trustees expressed their deep appreciation to Dr Kharkhordin for his extraordinary service and their gratitude for his agreement to continue service the University as a consultant on fundraising. The boards also expressed their gratitude to Dr Vakhtin for agreeing to assume the helm of the University at this difficult time.

The chairman of the boards, Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky, expressed the board’s conviction that the EUSP will continue to grow in its mission to be a leading institution of higher learning in Russia and the world.
