The talk will focus on the nature of nationalism and its spread, between the 16th and the 20th centuries, within its original monotheistic civilization. This will be contrasted with the particular dynamics of the globalization of national consciousness in the last decades, as it breaks through these borders and penetrates into China and India.

Liah Greenfeld is the author, among numerous other publications, of the Harvard University Press Nationalism Trilogy: Nationalism: Five Roads to Modernity, 1992 (Russian translation, 2008), The Spirit of Capitalism: Nationalism and Economic Growth, 2001, and Mind, Modernity, Madness: The Impact of Culture on Human Experience, 2013. She is University Professor and Professor of Sociology, Political Science, and Anthropology at Boston University.
