It is not entirely by chance that in the same year of 2004 the titles ‘Post-Democracy’ (Colin Crouch) and ‘Post-Truth Era’ (Ralph Keyes) appear. It is possible to show that if there is a connection between democracy and truth, there is also a link between the devaluation of each of them and the other. Thus, we will try to show that devaluation of democracy implies a devaluation of the truth and that the reciprocal implication is equally certain. In addition, we will try to show that the devaluation of truth and argumentation finds optimal conditions in a context of increasing obsolescence of the present, which is precisely a general feature found in digital social media, and is also found in highly mediated political communication.
